What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?
I’m spending the first Monday of the year in Colombia, making the most of the hours I have left with my family before going back to Canada.
Almost 14 years have passed since I left my country of origin, and saying goodbye to my loved ones never gets easier. In fact, as the years go by, it becomes harder especially knowing that most likely, it will be at least 12 months before I see them again.
That’s the price I decided to pay when I migrated and chose a new country to become my home.
Can anyone relate?
Although the hard part about living in Canada is being far from them, I wouldn’t change the path I decided to walk because the growth I’ve experienced wouldn’t have been the same had I stayed in my safe place.
Having taken that risk, the biggest of my life, has somehow strengthened the bond between myself and my family and has prepared me to work tirelessly so that folks who choose similar life paths, are equipped to transition smoothly into their new life in their new home country and succeed in their endeavours.
After 14 years, I feel as Canadian as I am Colombian, and fortunate since not too many people get to experience being citizens of 2 wonderful lands.
How are you spending the first Monday of the year?
